She kept her face hidden, burying it into his hair. With her legs now pulled onto the couch with him, she curled herself closer. Hands threading into his hair, she breathed as deeply as she could, fighting off every urge she had to cry. Her breathing became shaky and she shuddered in the place of the oncoming tears, her lip trembling.

She was fine with being silent- too many days had talking gotten both of them nowhere. There was a time both of them could be completely silent and practically tell an entire story from start to finish. Her mute boy, always using his touches and his expressions to explain himself. That’s what they needed. They needed to go back, to remember.

Hoping that she could spark this instinct back in him, she pressed her lips to his temple, gently nudging the spot with her nose afterwards.

The memories came back - came rushing back, all at once like the wake before a Lurker Shark’s fin. It was too much, too fast, and he trembled from the weight of it for a moment, burying his face in her neck. After he’d taken a moment to sort out memories from reality, he gently pressed his cheek to hers, moving upward just a little.

‘I know.’ Their signal for understanding, or confirmation. 'I remember.
